ABOUT THE ROLE :
The Golf Course Starter / Ranger is responsible for executing all aspects of the Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr. / Fresh Pond Golf Course, an environmentally sensitive and challenging public nine-hole golf course operating from early spring through early December located on part of the Fresh Pond Reservation and operated under the guidelines of the Fresh Pond Stewardship Plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Taking technical supervision from and reporting to the Golf Professional / Director, Assistant Golf Professional and the Director of Recreation, the Golf Course Starter / Ranger is responsible for :
- Responsible for the orderly and timely movement of tee times. Fresh Pond is an extremely busy facility, it is essential our first tee is run in a timely manner.
- Ensure the golf course policies and dress code are followed in addition to providing high quality customer service.
- Greeting golfers and being available for questions or concerns.
- Work closely with the Pro Shop staff to keep golfers on time to the first tee. Fresh Pond is an extremely busy facility and this role is crucial to daily operations.
- Track golf cart and pull cart fees based on the rec track system.
- Ensure scorecards and pencils are at the first tee area.
- Be aware of the daily calendar of events, and assist to execute where needed.
- Check that all players have a receipt before play.
- Maintain pace of play on the course. ie. No gaps between said group and the group ahead of them (Delivery in a professional manner). The ranger may encounter issues regarding pace, health emergencies or severe weather. Maintaining a clear line of communication with professional staff, superintendent and starters is critical.
- Offer to speed up play by looking for lost balls and potentially offering walkers a ride to the next shot or hole.
- Ranger will be responsible for returning carts to the Clubhouse area.
- When carts are returned the ranger will ensure all keys are returned to the clubhouse, carts are cleaned and plugged in for the evening.
- There will be minor cleaning responsibilities and trash removal from areas on the course.
- Check that carts are turned around and no keys in carts throughout your day.
