Recreation Leader I/II/III (Day Camp - Part Time)

The City of Campbell's Recreation & Community Services Department is seeking motivated, energetic, team-oriented individuals who enjoy working with children and teens for our Recreation Leader I, II, III positions!

Location: John D. Morgan Park and/or Campbell Community Center

SCHEDULE
Staff Training: June 9 - June 12 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Camp Dates and Hours: June 16 - August 8 from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (Tentative)

SALARY
All positions are part-time, temporary non-benefited positions. The pay rate will be dependent on qualifications and experience and is as follows:

• Recreation Leader I (High School) - $16.50 - $17.50 per hour 
• Recreation Leader II - $17.50 - $19.50 per hour 
• Recreation Leader III - $19.50 - $21.50 per hour

The Recreation Leader will have the opportunity to plan, conduct, and supervise children ages 4 to 15.5 in structured activities such as games, camp songs, arts & crafts, swimming, and field trips in a recreational park setting. This position will interact with the public and work as a team to provide exceptional programs in Campbell.

• Recreation Leader I: Experience working with children or teens in a recreational setting is desired, but not required.
• Recreation Leader II: 1-2 years of experience working with youth in a recreational setting is desired but not required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Recreation Leader III: 2 or more years of experience working with youth in a day camp setting or similar program is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Additional Qualifications:

• The minimum age at the start date of the assignment is 16 years.
• Tuberculosis test results must be submitted prior to scheduled employment. 
• Work permit required if under 18 and still in high school.

SELECTION PROCESS

The most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an interview. Selections will be made from the results of the interviews. Final selection is contingent upon a pre-employment criminal history records check and the ability to provide verification of authorization to work in the United States.

TENTATIVE RECRUITMENT SCHEDULE

1. How do I fill out the application?
   • Applications are only accepted online on governmentjobs.com. Emailed or faxed will not be accepted. It is okay to list volunteer work or babysitting experience in the job experience section. Since you are applying to work with children it is important to list all experience you have working in this area. Please do not attach your resume in-lieu of completing the online application. 
2. Should I prepare a cover letter with my application?
   • Instead of submitting a cover letter, please answer the supplemental questions about why you would be an excellent Recreation Leader and your experience working with children. 
3. What is the summer season work commitment?
   • In-service training is required for all new hires (6/9-6/13). Recreation Leaders need to be available to work a minimum of 6 weeks during the camp season (6/16 to 8/8). You can also apply to be an on-call substitute if you have prior experience working day camp or a similar program.

If you receive a message or email, it is up to you as the applicant to respond promptly to schedule an interview. interviews will begin the week of February 17, 2025 and will continue until positions are filled.
6. Should I bring a letter of recommendation to the interview?
   • We will require two letters of recommendation. Reference calls can be in lieu of Letters of Recommendation. To expedite the hiring process, please be sure to attach these documents to your application online, or email them to daycamp@campbellca.gov before the date of your interview. Recommendations should come from a teacher, coach, church leader, or mentor (not a family member) who can provide comments on your work experience and/or leadership skills.
