What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Specialist (Temporary, Non Benefited) position at City of Campbell?
The Campbell Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking a temporary Recreation Specialist to assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and marketing recreation activities. Recreation Specialists may be assigned to support Special Interest Classes, Youth and Adult Sports, and/or Fitness.
This temporary Recreation Specialist assignment will begin March 1, 2025 and go through August 31, 2025. The ability to work 40 hours a week is preferred; however, part-time hours (20 hours or more a week) will be considered prior to the summer months.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recreation programming.
- Plan and schedule field trips and special events for summer day camp program.
- Develop and oversee day camp programming, weekly activities and communication, staff meetings and Leader In Training program.
- Draft information material for program participants.
- Support recreation program implementation by monitoring enrollment, communicating with participants, and distributing paperwork to instructors.
- Provide a high level of customer service while handling routine inquiries and requests such as assisting the public in selecting appropriate recreation activities and processing registration payments and customer refunds.
- Prepare effective marketing materials (flyers, social media posts, press releases) and develop marketing and promotion strategies.
- Participate in fairs to promote programs and or for recruitment for summer positions.
- Receive and respond effectively to suggestions and complaints from contractors, staff, and customers.
- Process service contracts, review invoices, and prepare payment requests.
- Support execution of events, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are prepared.
- Monitor activities to ensure contractors, staff, and participants follow policies and procedures.
- Interact with participants and community members while monitoring activities.
- Assist in the training and supervision of contractual and hourly staff and volunteers.
- Conduct inventory of program supplies and accurately place orders.
- Monitor facilities, fields, and equipment used for classes to identify any health and safety or operational issues; prepare maintenance requests.
- Maintain effective communication and working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain accurate and organized program files and records.
- Follow City and Department guidelines and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment as needed.
- Ability to work in various settings, including outdoor and indoor environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn registration software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in recreation programming, event planning, or other related field is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Works under the direction of a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator.
- Position requires occasional evening and weekend hours for events or seasonal activities.
