This is an open examination. To be eligible for the position, must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D., must possess a valid commercial driver's license with at least a Class B CDL and must be a U.S. Citizen or have a permanent resident card and be at least 18 years of age.
Job Description
General Statement of Duties :
Operates trucks and other light-medium, mechanical construction equipment. Performs manual labor as necessary; and all work as designated by a supervisor.
Distinguishing Features of the Class :
Can operate a pickup truck, 1 ton dump truck, 5-ton dump truck, forklift, skid loader, dumpster, tractor, all grass mowing equipment and loader, (only for the purpose of loading materials onto a truck which is being operated).
Examples of Work :
Drives trucks for all variety of construction, cleanup and other City maintenance operations; handles and moves materials for storage, maintenance or construction. Is involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of facilities and infrastructure. Operates jackhammer, grass mowing and other miscellaneous construction equipment. Sets up barricades and performs traffic control duties; pick up and disposal of debris. May direct laborers working on a crew to which he is assigned unless a supervisor is present. Other related duties, not listed, but consistent with, and similar in nature to, the above examples may also be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
A full knowledge of the City streets is necessary; ability to follow oral and written instruction; must be in good physical condition and maintain a good attendance record; must be able to deal tactfully with the public when the need arises. Must be able to drive a truck and operate various light and medium equipment. Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments when needed. Must possess a valid Class "B" Commercial Drivers' License.
Acceptable Experience and Training :
Training within the City or experience with a private construction firm, or other combination of knowledge, training, and experience which provides the necessary skills is acceptable.
Testing Information
SUBSEQUENT TO THE FILING OF THE APPLICATION, THE CANDIDATES WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE LOCATION, DATE, AND TIME OF THE EXAMINATION. An examination will be administered covering the following areas : map reading, safety, mathematics, mechanical comprehension, general labor knowledge, public relations and other related areas. A 70% passing point will be used.
REPEATING AN EXAM
Per OAC Rule 123 : 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take an examination for the same classification within FOUR MONTHS from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specified in the examination announcement.
RATING Your name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.
