This is an open examination. To be eligible for the position under this examination, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or have a permanent resident card. Applicants must be a High School graduate or possess a G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age.
General Statement of Duties:
The Filter Operator operates the filters and pumps of a filtration plant, makes tests and readings, and makes reports for records involved in the purification of the city water supply. The individual works under the supervision of the Superintendent of Water and/or a designee.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
Has responsibility for various aspects of the filtration and purification process. Ensures that water quality meets department and regulatory standards. Recognizes water usage patterns to coordinate treatment and pumpage with customer demands. Performs inspections of water treatment plant.
Examples of Work:
Operates the equipment of the filter and water treatment on a daily shift basis. Is subject to specific assignments, instruction, and periodic inspection, with some responsibility for performing the work. Operates and adjusts chemical feeders, chlorinators, filters, and related equipment. Takes readings and makes reports of pumpages, filter records, chlorinators, chemical feeders, and related equipment. Ensures that all equipment is clean and in working condition. Other related duties, not listed but consistent with and similar in nature to the above examples, may also be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to use various hand tools and necessary equipment. Ability to walk, bend, and stoop to perform inspections, tests, and readings. Ability to operate and adjust equipment. Ability to take readings and make reports.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and proficiency in basic mathematics and chemistry; and experience in a water filtration plant; or a similar environment; or any other combination of training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. May be required to attend various work-related short school courses. Must possess a valid Ohio drivers license at all times.

Repeating an Exam
Per OAC Rule 123: 1-9-01, an applicant who has competed in a civil service examination cannot repeat that examination or take and examination for the same classification within FOUR MONTHS from the date of original examination, unless an alternative form of examination is given, or unless other standards are specific in the examination announcement.
RATING
Your name will be placed on a list of eligible candidates upon receiving a passing score. Once the list has been established, your name will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO VETERANS
