  • Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Five (5) years of experience in construction industry design, plan review, and inspection field duties
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
  • Provisional Plans Examiner ($51,230.40 Min - $80,121.60 Max) - Must have the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire a provisional license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations as a Plans Examiner.
  • Plans Examiner I ($53,768.00 Min - $84,136.00 Max) - One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline, the area of which is determined by business need.
  • Plans Examiner II ($56,451.20 Min - $88,358.40 Max) - One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and one (1) Plans Examiner or Building Inspector license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline the area of which is determined by business need.
  • Plans Examiner III ($59,280.00 Min - $92,768.00 Max) - One (1) Plans Examiner license issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations and two (2) or more Plans Examiner or Building Inspector licenses issued by the Department of Business and Professional Regulations, any discipline the area of which is determined by business need
  • Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews residential, commercial, and miscellaneous construction and project plans for the Department of Community Development.
  • Position provides support for Building or Development Services and maintains necessary certifications according to division of assignment.
  • Employees in this class are responsible for ensuring compliance with established standard building, fire and / or zoning codes and regulations.
  • Incumbents possess a broad background in general construction practices that provides solid knowledge of inspecting structures, reviewing plans, and interpreting various forms of site documentation, i.e., architectural drawings, maps, schematics, engineering designs.
  • Position is responsible for review and approval / denial of various permits, and the accurate recording of all approved permits.

  • General Plan - Normal Retirement Eligibility : Hired before 10 / 1 / 2013, age 60 or 25 years of service; Hired on / after 10 / 1 / 2013, age 62 with 10 years of service or just 27 years of service.

  • Fire Plan - Normal Retirement Eligibility : Hired before 6 / 16 / 2014, age 50 or 25 years of service; Hired on / after 6 / 16 / 2014, age 52 with 10 years of service or just 25 years of service.
  • Benefit Rate Multiplier :
  • General Plan - Less than 20 years of credited service = 2.5%; 20 or more years of credited service = 2.6% for 1st 20 years and 2.75% each year over 20
  • Fire Plan - 3.25%
  • Police Pension Plan administered by The Resource Centers
  • Benefits available at retirement are determined by a formula that considers your salary and years of service. Normal retirement eligibility for Police Employees at age 52 or 27 years of service. Benefit rate multiplier for Police : 3.25%

  • Block of hours which incorporates sick and vacation. Accrues at 16.67 hours per month for an annual total of 5 weeks (200 hours). Accrual increases to 20.00 hours per month after 6 years of service and continues at a yearly increase after 10 years of service.

  • City recognizes 11 holidays which include : New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
