The Position
You will join a team dedicated to upholding the department's mission to promote community health and wellness while building a diverse culture that embraces change and continuous improvement. Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is looking for candidates with a passion for people, service and history! Under supervision, this part-time position includes park operations and visitor services, assistance with programming and special events, and front-line customer service. The Senior Recreation Leader position requires periods of physically demanding work, the ability to speak to and interact with the public and lead guided walking tours of Leo Carrillo Ranch intended for a diverse audience of adults and children. Candidates will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating volunteers, staffing historic buildings and visitor center, coordinating facility schedule for rentals, special event set up and clean up, facility opening and closing duties, and assisting with overall daily site operations, as needed.
This is a weekend position and candidates must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position requires an ability to perform a full range of assigned duties, working independently, exercising judgment, and taking initiative. Senior Recreation Leaders receive only occasional instruction and / or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and must be fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Position requires an interest in history and the natural environment and comfort working in outdoor settings throughout the year. Applicants must be able to climb stairs, traverse uneven ground, and lift up to 50 lbs. For the Senior Recreation Leader position, it is desirable to have prior related experience that allows the employee to meet the qualification standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain relations with park guests, volunteers and contracted vendors
- Provide a variety of administrative and specialized support to activity programming
- Provide clerical and specialized support of recreational programs
- Assist in the preparation of emails, reports, newsletters and data entry
- Meet and communicate with instructors, staff, presenters and the public regarding programs, rentals and visitor information
- Assist in the planning, organizing and marketing of activities; participate in staff meetings
- Assist with events; maintain park facilities
- Set up and break-down for camps, classes, programs and special events
Qualifications
Experience & Education
Education
Must have high school diploma preferably supplemented by college level courses in recreation, education, history, anthropology, or a related field.
Special Requirements / License or Certificate
Physical / Mental Requirements
Ability to speak to the public for extended periods, work with large groups, sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, withstand exposure to the outdoors, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Eligible to use after the first 90 days of work
Part time positions do not have benefits, and cannot exceed 980 hours in a fiscal year (July 1- June 30).
