GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, organizes, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned personnel at the landfill, in the collection of solid waste, or engaged in the maintenance, construction, repair and upkeep of roadways, concrete, curbing, alleys, retention basins, facilities, buildings, parks, recreation fields and landscape areas.
PRIMARYDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plans, prioritizes, leads, reviews, and participates in the work of staff involved in a variety of duties in sanitation collection, landfill operations, or the construction, maintenance, and repair of roadways, concrete, curbing, alleys, retention basins, facilities, buildings, parks, recreation fields and landscape areas.
- Develops schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Leads work crews performing construction and maintenance activities; prioritizes work and decides what equipment and materials are needed to accomplish work assignments; assigns work, materials and equipment to crew; assures that all safety rules and regulations are observed on the job site.
- Assists with the supervision of staff and evaluating performance; monitors operations to identify and resolve problems and priorities.
- Reviews and inspects the work of the assigned staff to assure the work quality, and the timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Leads staff and performs the most difficult and complex work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of parks and recreation facilities, including City aquatic facilities.
- Uses a personal computer or other hand-held communication devices to enter and retrieve information related to work assignments, other record keeping, and electronic communication.
- Trains staff and coordinates training programs; instructs crew in work techniques and the proper use and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains records and logs of services performed and general information.
- Monitors and enforces adherence to City policies, procedures and standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Receives direction from a Supervisor or Superintendent. Exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned maintenance staff.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent, High School diploma or GED equivalent, and five (5) years maintenance and construction experience including equipment operation, concrete repair, irrigation maintenance, landscaping, turf care or other related work, including two years as a Senior Maintenance Worker level.
Special Requirements: Possession of a Class A Arizona Commercial Driver License; specific technical training, certifications or license endorsements may be required for some job assignments.

- Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair of park and recreation ground, facilities, and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety rules, standards and practices for Parks projects.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation.
- Knowledge of the principles of record keeping and records management.
- Knowledge of construction staking, such as slope and filling of grades and elevations.
- Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying technical regulations and policies and procedures.
- Skill in establishing cooperative working relationships with employees and City staff.
- Skill in supervision, coordinating staff, and delegating tasks and authority.
- Skill in promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Skill in safe and efficient operation of trucks and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Skill in reading and interpreting written material, maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
