GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, provides security services to maintain safe and secure environments for City parks and facilities, and performs minor maintenance.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Patrols parks and areas around City facilities to monitor activities and identify inappropriate, unsafe, criminal or other undesirable behaviors; resolves issues as appropriate; notifies the police department as necessary.
- Completes reports and submits work orders; removes trash and other debris and performs minor maintenance.
- Provides assistance to parks users as necessary or requested; answers questions from the public about park facilities and associated rules, regulations and ordinances. Promotes programs and services for safe park use.
- Opens and closes parks and parks facilities as needed.
- Checks permits and reservations in park and recreation facilities.
- Issues warnings and citations as appropriate for violations of park rules, regulations and ordinances. May assist with after-hours animal control calls.
- Maintains the integrity, professionalism, philosophies, attitudes, and values of the Community Services Department by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
High School diploma or GED equivalent, and one (1) year of public contact work experience, preferably in law enforcement, security or similar capacity.
Special Requirements: Must possess State of Arizona Driver's license, and clear criminal record. Must obtain pepper spray and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator certifications within initial 6-month probationary period.Necessary Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of the geography of the city and the location of parks important buildings.
- Knowledge of City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of security practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of park rules, regulations and ordinances.
- Knowledge of radio communications procedures.
- Skill in interpreting laws, rules and regulations, making independent decisions, maintaining composure, and working effectively under stressful conditions and emergency situations.
- Skill in exercising controlled discretion in communicating with citizens and mediating difficult situations.
- Skill in gathering and evaluating facts and evidence, drawing logical conclusions and making proper recommendations.
- Skill in using and maintaining assigned equipment.
- Skill in operating motor vehicles.
- Skill in interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Skill in preparing comprehensive professional reports and accurately completing paperwork.
Physical Demands / Work Environment: Majority of work is performed outdoors and requires walking, running, climbing, sitting and operation of a motor vehicle. May require lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs. May work a varying work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
