The Summer Internship Program provides students with a glimpse into the world of public service and a chance to explore several different careers in local government. The program lasts eight weeks (starting May 27), and interns work a flexible 20-40 hours/week at $15.50/hour for high school students and $17.00/hour for college students. Participants will apply for specific city departments. Some departments only offer part-time internships.

Interns will have the opportunity to assist with the victim assistance program, civil case work, and possibly criminal components as well. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing copies of police reports by CGPD
- Initiate contact with victims via telephone or in person prior to initial pretrial court date
- Informing victims about their constitutional rights, case status, court dates, court proceedings, and criminal justice process
- Providing victims with resources, safety planning, and other domestic violence related information
- Assisting victims with completing forms for victim statements
- Documenting case notes and inputting information into Attorney's database
- Assisting with sewer lien letters and mailings
- General administrative tasks
City Court
As an intern with the City Court, you will learn about the legal process and support Court operations through helping with the management of case files, court orders, and key reports. This position is only offered part time.
Responsibilities:
- Screen and assess program participants to assist with rehabilitation and accountability
- Makes referrals for court order counseling and monitor progress of treatment
- Oversees the management of case files to determine adherence to court ordered conditions
- Receives and reviews monthly reports from treatment providers on program participants and takes appropriate remedial actions as necessary
- Compiles statistical data and completes necessary reports
- Compiles and maintains social and case histories, monitors court dockets, and calendars, and runs record checks to determine whether probationers have committed additional offenses
- Other office work as needed
Community Services
As an Intern in the Community Services Department - Recreation Division, you will have the opportunity to work on the marketing, coordination, and planning of exciting special events and activities.
Responsibilities:
- Gathering, organizing, and creating marketing content for the Recreation Division
- Organizing and adding digital content
- Assist with the management & development of special events and activities
- Various other activities necessary to assist the Community Services Department

Fire
As an Intern in the Fire Department, you will learn about the various positions within a fire department while also assisting with several special projects. For students interested in a career in Municipal Fire Prevention, this is the perfect opportunity to start building those connections and learn about the profession. This department is offering two part-time positions.
Responsibilities:
- Identify the basic principle of a Community Risk Reduction program
- Research demographic information of the Casa Grande Community
- Assist in the creation, delivery, and evaluation of CRR programs in the community
- Evaluate several CRR organizational fire department partners such as: NFPA, NFA, Vision 20/20, and IFSTA
- Help create social media videos & posts for CRR safety campaigns
- Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files and administrative assistance as assigned
- Help promote CRR safety campaigns and engage with community partners
- Shadow multiple positions including firefighters, dispatchers, inspectors, public education officer, and secretary
Planning & Development
As an Intern in the Planning & Development Department, you will see firsthand how services are provided to continually improve the quality of life for Casa Grande residents through thoughtful management of growth and development opportunities. Applicants Must be at least 17 years old.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize GIS to determine location of properties, property boundaries and existing infrastructure
- Learn civil engineering principles applied to review various types of engineering permits
- Utilize record management software and scanning equipment to digitize plans
- Learn ways in which various building codes are applied to the plans for the construction of new structures
- Learn the building inspection process
- Use of record management software and scanning equipment to store building permits for retention
Police Department
As an intern with the Police Department, you will contribute to keeping Casa Grande a safe and thriving community. You will participate in making policy recommendations to ensure that law enforcement standards are being met. This position is only offered part time. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and preference will be given to college/university students.
Responsibilities:
- Restructure the Policy Manual in PowerDMS and in Word format
- Review / recommend policy & procedure changes to meet ALEAP Standards
- Seek proof of ALEAP compliance consisting of policy statements, procedures, reports, audit reports, training, photographs, and other documents.?
- Build 2025 Excel worksheet for tracking compliance proofs for the 175 ALEAP Standards
- Conduct low level audits if needed

Public Works
As an Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department, you will work in a dynamic team environment with exposure to various projects including capital improvement, planning and development of transportation projects, and traffic engineering and operation. Applicants must be at least 17 years old.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with field inspection of municipal and developer installed public improvement projects
- Assist with field inspection and study of sign and signals inventory of ADA infrastructure
- Prepare weekly project updates. Participate in project progress meetings
- Ensures projects are built conforming to engineering plans, specifications, and safety standards
- Participate in pre-construction meetings
- Performs other related duties as required
