What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ski Area Superintendent position at City of Casper?

Assigned to:  Parks Division

Incumbent is responsible for oversight of the staffing and operational activities for the City of Casper Hogadon Ski Area. 

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Receives general guidance from Parks Manager and higher-level management staff. 1.  Supervises assigned staff to include: authorizing time off, approving payroll and hiring; prioritizing and assigning work; ensuring that training and development is provided to staff; provides consistent feedback and ensures accountability through coaching and disciplinary actions (as warranted), in addition to maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.

2.  Oversees ski area operations including ticketing, customer service, marketing, snowmaking, lift operation and maintenance, and grounds operation and maintenance;; facilitates regular user group/concessioner meetings to coordinate complementary ski area operations; provides staff assistance to the Parks Manager, prepares and presents operational plans, business plans and other necessary communication.

3.  Manages and tracks the activities of the ski area which includes developing and implementing departmental goals, policies, and procedures and documenting work through the City’s work order system; identifies and implements opportunities to improve services.

4.  Assists with budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates and justifications for budget items; periodically evaluates and recommends rate structures, submits and approves invoices for payment and monitors expenses to align with the budget allocated, adhering to City procurement policies and utilizing the City’s central financial software system.

5.  Ensures conformity with industry best practices, insurance requirements, and environmental compliance related to ski area operations.

6.  Responds to and resolves citizen concerns and/or complaints.

7.  Prepares operational and statistical reports.

8.  Keeps current on new trends and innovations in ski area operations.

9.  Provides general customer service and communicates with the public regarding fees, policies, rules and general information about the facility or event.

10. Represents the City of Casper by responding to the public, citizens, its employees, and others in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner while continuously maintaining a positive customer service demeanor.

 11. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

•Current trends and innovations in ski area operations.
•Applicable Federal, State, Local and City government codes, rules, and regulations relating to the various aspects of ski area management.
•Tools and equipment used in ski area maintenance.
•Administrative principles and practices, including goal and objective development, work planning and employee supervision.
•Basic principles of municipal budget preparation and control; inventory principles.
•Principles of supervision, training, and employee development.
•Operational characteristics, services, and activities of a ski area.

•Follow all City safety rules and procedures and immediately respond to/investigate observations or employee reports of accidents/incidents or unsafe conditions.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 
•High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
•Bachelor’s degree in resort management, business, public administration, or a related field preferred.
•Minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a supervisor. 
•Minimum of three (3) years of increasingly responsible ski area operations experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed below. 

LICENSING and CERTIFICATIONS
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class B Wyoming driver’s license preferred.

Employment with the City of Casper is contingent upon a successful background screen and pre-employment drug test.  Applicants who have failed a pre-employment screen or have been terminated from the City of Casper are ineligible for employment consideration for 12 months. You will become eligible for consideration 12 months from the date of your incident (pre-employment screen or termination).  
 
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must utilize direct deposit for payroll purposes.  
 
Driving records are required for all new employees regardless of the position's driving requirements. If the employee has not held a Wyoming driver's license for the last three years, the employee must provide at their own initiation and expense a driving record from their previous state(s) of residence.
 
Physical and Environmental Conditions:  
City of Casper employees in data creation and modification, security sensitive or safety and protective positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing. Some employees may be subject to random drug testing if their responsibilities include: 
•Emergency response/rescue
•Handling or working with hazardous materials, including chemicals as well as solid and liquid waste
•Operating or maintaining water and wastewater systems
•Writing or modifying code, maintaining, or modifying City data systems including work on networks, servers, and communication systems
•CDL operations and driving
•Operating power-driven machinery or equipment
•Creating or modifying health, financial, security and/or risk documents or assessments
•Working with or directing minors 

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. 

Incumbents may be subjected to dusts, fumes, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.

Salary : $66,236 - $92,730
