The Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Coordinator with overseeing the Wirz Park Pool facility. They ensure that all facility procedures and safety protocols are followed, and that the environment remains safe and secure for both patrons and staff. The Head Lifeguard will assist with providing guidance, often supporting other lifeguards and Recreation Staff, assisting with programming, and ensuring the facility runs smoothly.
  1. Performs supervisory responsibilities to lifeguards and swim instructors. (95%)
    1. Supervision & Leadership
      1. Supervise and coordinate aquatics staff during shifts
      2. Ensure all lifeguards are properly trained and prepared for emergencies
      3. Provide guidance and feedback to lifeguards and swim instructors on performance, behavior, and customer service 
      4. Lead by example in terms of safety, professionalism, and attitude
    2. Safety Management
      1. Oversee and enforce pool rules and regulations
      2. Monitor and evaluate safety equipment and ensure it is maintained and accessible
      3. Assist with emergency response situations, including performing first aid and CPR as necessary
      4. Conduct regular safety drills and assessments of emergency procedures
    3. Training & Development
      1. Assist with the organization and implementation of regular lifeguard training sessions, including CPR, first aid, and in-service trainings
      2. Help manage scheduling and training for staff certifications 
      3. Assist with the training of new staff to ensure they meet the facility’s standards before working independently
    4. Facility Maintenance & Operations
      1. Assist with the upkeep of pool areas, ensuring cleanliness and functionality
      2. Monitor water quality and report any issues
      3. Ensure all safety signage and equipment, (e.g., rescue tubes, life jackets) are in proper working order
    5. Customer Service
      1. Interact with guests and resolve any concerns or feedback regarding safety or facility policies
      2. Educate patrons on water safety rules and regulations
      3. Maintain a positive and professional environment for all guests and staff
    6. Administrative Duties
      1. Complete and maintain necessary records (incident reports, attendance logs, etc.)
      2. Report to facility management on staffing, incidents, or safety concerns
      3. Help manage lifeguard schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels
    7. Additional Duties and Responsibilities (5%)
      1. Adheres to laws, regulations and policies of the City and of the assigned Department. Follows instructions provided by Department Director or their designee.
      2. Participates in department meetings, staff meetings and other related activities. 
      3. Completes the identified required or assigned training timely and applies acquired knowledge and/or skills.
      4. Follows retention requirements of public records pursuant to Public Records and the Florida Department of State, General Records Schedule, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes as amended.
    8. Emergency Management Role 
      1. Participates as a member of the City staff as required to take action in the event of an emergency.
      2. Acts in the assigned role to support the City in disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts as described in theCity of Casselberry Emergency Management Plan, supervisor, or designee.  As a member of the City Administrative staff may be responsible for safeguarding the records of the City Manager in the event of an emergency.

  1. Education and Training: A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required
  1. Experience: Previous experience as a lifeguard is required, with at least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.  
  1. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license is required.  A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check will be made to determine acceptance of past driving record.  
    1. Must hold current lifeguard certification from nationally recognized agency
    2. Additional certifications as a lifeguard instructor, lifeguard supervisor, or swim instructor are preferred. 
  2. Security Clearance: Florida Department of Law Enforcement background clearance is required.
  3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations affecting work.
  • Knowledge of the functions and organization of the municipal government.
  • Knowledge of current business management practices.
  • Skill in effectively dealing with the public and other agencies in a courteous, tactful and impartial manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability (intermediate to advanced level) to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

A. Work Environment: This position primarily performs the duties in in an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate and consistent with an office environment.  
B. Physical Demands: The primary functions require prolonged periods of time sitting at a computer, and using hands to operate computer, handle or feel.   Occasionally this position will stand, walk, bend and drive.  In addition, this position may be required to occasionally lift and carry up to ten (10) pounds with or without assistance of another person or utilization of lifting equipment.  This position is regularly required to use vision, speech, and hearing, with or without assistive devices. 
C.  Equipment/Tools and Technology Used: This position utilizes the following tools and equipment while performing the duties of the job: Computer, phone, headset, Multi-Function Printer (MFP), audio recording equipment, industrial paper shredder, and city vehicle.  
D.  Employee Infection/Exposure Risk Classification:   Category III: Employee performs tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids or Other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM).  Persons who perform these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid, or to be potentially exposed in some other way.  Tasks that involve handling of implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities or telephones, and personal contact such as handshaking are Category III tasks.
