What are the responsibilities and job description for the FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC position at City of Cathedral City?
The ideal candidate, under general supervision, responds to fires, medical emergencies and other emergency and non-emergency situations and takes appropriate action to protect life and property; performs advanced life support activities in a field environment and various staff support assignments in addition to normal emergency response activities; performs related work as assigned.
Training and Experience
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and completion of a California State Fire Marshal accredited fire academy.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a California driver’s license, must maintain a satisfactory driving record.
- Must possess a current/valid CPR certification.
- Possession of a valid State of California Paramedic certification/licensure with eligibility to work under the Riverside County.
- Must be willing to work shifts as structured in the Fire Department.
- Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) or Biddle issued within the last year (12) months.
- A Firefighter I certificate is desirable.
- College-level fire science coursework and previous firefighting experience in a volunteer or paid capacity is desirable.
- Any candidate currently enrolled in a state accredited Fire Academy, may apply, but must possess their certificate at time of appointment.
- Any candidate currently enrolled in a certified paramedic program, may apply, but must have their state license at time of appointment.
- Must be current on the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL); OR have passed the National Testing Network Written Exam within the past year (from date of application)

Must live within 150 miles of the City limits by the end of their probationary period.
The calculation of the 150 miles shall be made using Google Maps driving directions.
