PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER I (Range 690)
$56,897 - $74,477 per yearSalary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on the position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.
Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that provides the below listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way of qualifying would be:
- Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of employment which has included regular contact with the public.
- Typing speed 35 wpm
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification is desirable and must be obtained within one year.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation
- Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts on a rotation basis
- Must be willing to be called back or held over to maintain minimum staffing levels
- Must obtain Post Basic Dispatcher and Department of Justice CLETS/CJIS operator certifications prior to completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher I
- Upon conditional offer of employment, selected candidate(s) will be required to pass a physical and psychological evaluation.

~ THE SELECTION PROCESS ~
- Written Exam - Must pass the CritiCall Dispatcher/Calltaker Exam which may be scheduled with our Police Department free of charge.

- Scores obtained from the National Testing Network (ECOMM Exam) within the past year (from date of posting) will be accepted in lieu of CritiCall.
- Typing certification with a minimum 35 net words per minute - The City will honor an acceptable typing certificate dated within the last year from the following agencies: state, federal, municipal agency; temp agency; business schools or colleges; adult education centers; skills and business education centers. If you are unable to obtain a typing certification on your own, please contact Human Resources for available alternatives.

BACKGROUND DISQUALIFIERS:
- An adult felony conviction in California, or with a conviction for an offense in another state which would be classified as a felony in California
- Currently on Probation or Parole
- Adult felony and/or misdemeanor conviction(s) may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent
- Conviction of/or sustained petitions for any sex crime
- Recent use and/or possession of illegal drugs, weapons or explosive devices without legal authorization
- History of committing domestic violence or animal cruelty
- Dishonesty or failure to reveal pertinent information
