We are seeking an individual, who has demonstrated a willing commitment to these values, holding them in high regard, to join our team as Utility Maintenance Worker in the Water / Sewer division for the Public Works Department. The purpose of this position is to facilitate continuing water and sewer services to the City by providing skilled services. This is accomplished by installing and maintaining water and sewer utilities. Other duties may include repairing leaks and replacing old services, repairing sewer lines, repairing water and sewer taps, maintaining meters and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

How You Add Value

  • Repairs water leaks by identifying and replacing broken water line components, assisting with water repairs and the installation of water lines and operating equipment.
  • Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Repairs sewer lines by locating, cleaning and repairing sewer lines, repairing and rehabbing manholes, correcting stoppages, flagging locations and repairing and running services.
  • Repairs water and sewer taps by excavating to the main, tapping lines, running new services, assisting with the installation, repair and maintenance of water mains, valves, hydrants, meters and wells and logging water lines.
  • Maintains meters by picking-up and completing work orders, changing out broken meters, monitoring meters for damage, preparing reports, communicating meter problems to the appropriate departments and inspecting meters for water leaks.
  • Performs preventative maintenance by greasing tractors, listening for leaks, flushing lines, degreasing lift stations and repairing valves.
  • Regular attendance required.

What You Bring to the Role

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Less than one year of related experience required.
  • Valid Texas Class A CDL Driver's License required. Candidates that do not currently possess the required CDL must pass all necessary written tests to obtain CDL within two (2) months of hire, as a condition of employment. In addition, the driving test must be passed within four (4) months after the written test deadline, as a condition of employment
  • Class "C" water and Class II wastewater certificate issued by the State of Texas or obtain within 3 years of hire, as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical ability test, and background check.
  • Must successfully complete a six (6) month introductory period as a condition of continued employment.
