What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Services Assistant (Part Time) position at City of Cedar Hill?
Under the direction of the Adult Services and Outreach Librarian, this position is a community focused role, responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of innovative community programs and outreach services. Successful candidates in this role will be customer focused and enthusiastic about bringing library services to a diverse community. This position is also responsible for assisting in collection of data and feedback, as well as analyzing and using it to inform library services, providing premier customer service and assistance within all areas of the library, and interfacing with community organizations, other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.
- Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner. Maintains the appearance of the Library, answers patron’s reference questions and assists in the location of reference material and the use of the library equipment.
- Creates and leads engaging and innovative activities, classes, and programs for adults (18 ) focused on literacy, education, the arts, and workforce development.
- Collects and analyzes program data to measure program success and progress towards departmental goals. Stays abreast of library trends and anticipates community needs for program development.
- Develops and coordinates outreach services that represent and build understanding across community members of all ages and backgrounds.
- Proactively seeks opportunities to engage relationships with community organizations, Cedar Hill ISD and other educational institutions within Cedar Hill, small businesses, and City departments to build sustained collaboration and partnerships.
- Assists adult services librarian to complete grant proposals, and report writing efforts as needed.
- Serves as a cooperative, effective member of the Library team, providing backup support, as well as programming and special events in other areas of the department, as needed.
- Effectively create and deliver programs within the community, including but not limited to creating program advertisement, resource material and presentation content; ability to communicate program content in a professional manner both in writing and orally.
- Regular attendance required, including evenings and weekends, as needed for special events and meetings.
- Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalent required.
- Additional education and/or training related to library services and/or community outreach preferred.
- One year of customer service or community outreach experience required, preferably in a library or similar environment.
- Knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Office required.
- Experience collecting data and feedback and analyzing information collected for process/program improvement.
- Displays a high level of flexibility and proven skill in multitasking in a fast paced, customer-centric environment.
