What are the responsibilities and job description for the Juvenile Case Manager position at City of Cedar Hill?
The purpose of this position is to process and maintain case files for all juvenile offenders. This is accomplished through: serving as a liaison between the juvenile, judge, and community service locations; participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs, including the maintenance and operation of the volunteer services and other programs within the Municipal Court juvenile program. This position is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of juvenile programs; assisting in the planning, coordinating, and reviewing the work plan for juvenile case service and programs, monitoring work flow, and reviewing and evaluating work program, methods and procedures; Preparing and presenting statistical reports and other necessary correspondence; recommends modifications to juvenile case programs and policies, as appropriate; Other duties include assisting court clerks with the day to day operation of the court; process payments and assisting defendants both at the counter and over the telephone. This position does not provide direction to other employees.
- Provides premier customer service to citizens, internal and external customers by responding to requests in a positive, timely, effective and professional manner.
Assists customers in person and over the telephone; process pleas and court paperwork, takes money in payment of fines, answers questions, and properly disposes of cases. Assists with community outreach programs such as municipal court week, career days and safety fairs. - Process and maintain case files of all juvenile defendants; monitor juvenile case files that have been before the court and promptly notify the appropriate parties when a juvenile has failed to complete the order in a timely fashion.
- Attend all juvenile dockets; maintain the docket as the judge hears the case;
prepare appropriate paperwork and effectively communicate court orders to juvenile offenders and their parent(s)/legal guardian(s). - Acts as a liaison between juveniles, the judges, community services provides and school authorities; maintains contact with all parties involved in the juvenile case and ensures that the juvenile defendant complies with court orders.
- Processes cases in electronic court software system, enter citations into court computer software, prepares complaints, and ensures case files are properly filed.
- Maintains trial dockets by preparing dockets and notifying defendants, attorneys, officers, complainants, and witnesses. Prepares and mails summons, and assists the judge as needed.
- Must receive training in the role of the juvenile case manager, case planning and management applicable procedural and substantive law.
- Regular attendance required.
- Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
- At least two year of previous court experience as a Court Clerk, Case Worker, or in a position dealing with at-risk juveniles.
- Valid Texas driver’s license. Possession of Court Clerk Certification level 1, or ability to obtain within one year. Must be able to obtain and maintain TLETS certification.
- Due to the nature of this position, candidates must be able to pass a police background check in order to gain and maintain CJIS clearance.
