We are seeking individuals, who have demonstrated a willing commitment to these values, holding them in high regard, to join our award-winning team this summer as Water Safety Instructor (WSI)/Lifeguard! This is a seasonal position, scheduled to begin in May 2025.
The purpose of this position is to plan, educate, supervise, and evaluate participants in structured learn to swim classes. Our Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructors also ensure the safety of all patrons utilizing the pool facility and provide premier customer service. The position is responsible for functioning as a lifeguard and as a swim lesson instructor. The position is responsible for instructing patrons in the proper methods of swimming and safety skills. Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor will enforce pool rules in and around the pool, identify and respond to emergency situations and administer care, perform general maintenance and cleaning in and around the pool, and enforce all rules and regulations. Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor will assist with all pool activities including rentals, aquatic programs, and special events. Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor must be punctual, fair, consistent, attend in-service training, and be professional at all times. Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor is also knowledgeable in swimming lessons, lifeguarding, first aid, and performing CPR and using an AED. This position performs other duties as assigned.
- Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by educating customers, resolving customer concerns, meeting customer needs, responding to requests, and helping to maintain a safe and clean pool environment in a professional manner.
- Instructs, plans, prepares, and evaluates water safety instruction programs.
- Assists in maintaining related records and statistics for programs and participants.
- Assist with rentals, aquatics programs, and special events for the pool.
- Ensures the safety of the general public by enforcing pool rules and regulations, monitoring activities, and providing assistance when necessary. Provides accident prevention.
- Provides general facility maintenance and cleanliness duties including cleaning bathhouse restrooms and locker rooms, cleaning the pool, pool decks, pool equipment, grass areas, and pool house areas.
- Performs emergency service by rescuing, resuscitating, or administering first aid as required. Reports all incidents to Recreation Coordinator.
- Attends in-service training each week on safety and emergency procedures.
- Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Requires regular attendance.
- Less than high school education acceptable.
- Related experience preferred.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- A current American Red Cross certification in First aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguarding or equivalent is required. - Pass pre-employment skills test for Lifeguarding.
