GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing various routine labor duties in the cleanup and maintenance of city streets and property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform regular servicing and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
2. Clean up City property and right of way using industrial weed eaters, brush hooks, chain saws, pole saws, limb saws and small power equipment.
3. Operate equipment such as mowers, backhoe, truck involved in various maintenance activities such as mowing, culvert installation and patching.
4. Operate a dump truck, hauling highway maintenance materials.
5. Paint, flag, patch, etc.
6. Mow shoulders and embankment slopes on the right of way using large tractors and gang mowers.
7. Load, unload, and stack bagged salt, sand, cement, etc.
8. Respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven day a week (such as natural disasters, severe weather, traffic accidents etc.).
9. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.
