JOB TITLE: Seasonal – Public Works
DEPARTMENT: Stormwater, Street, Wastewater, Water
DATE: April 2025
WAGE: $19.80 - $21.33/hr (Table T, Range 7) – Non-benefited
HOURS: 7:00AM – 3:30PM
WORK DAYS: Monday - Friday
POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Until Filled
DURATION of POSITIONS: May through approximately September
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Perform maintenance and repairs on stormwater, streets, wastewater, and water infrastructure. This classification description reflects the general concept and intent of the classification and should not be construed as a detailed statement of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
1. Must be able to operate riding/push mowers, weed-eaters, hand power equipment, hand tools, landscaping equipment such as shovels, picks, hoes, rakes, and other similar equipment.
2. Must be able to perform manual labor associated with the maintenance, repair, and construction of stormwater, street, wastewater and water infrastructure.
3. Must be able to operate pickup trucks for hauling, dirt, debris, and materials.
4. Must be able to control traffic by flagging to guide traffic through work areas.
5. Must be able to collect and remove garbage and other debris from public property as needed.
6. Must be able to work outdoors in the rain, cold, dust, dirt, heat, humidity, and noisy environments.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Employee risks physical hazard from mechanical equipment, traffic, and exposure to noise and fumes. Physical effort is required to lift in excess of 50 pounds. Physical activities include constant standing, kneeling, crouching, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching, and carrying. Requires occasional crawling, sitting, and climbing.
MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
1. Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
2. Basic mechanical ability and skill to use hand tools and equipment.
3. Knowledge of safe working practices.
4. Ability to work independently or cooperatively on work crews, and be dependable, and reliable.
5. Ability to communicate effectively.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
7. Must be 18 years old or older with a valid Washington State Driver License with acceptable driving record.
8. Demonstrates courteous cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, customers, other City Staff and City Departments.
