SEASONAL OUTDOOR LIFEGUARD
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors activities at the pool to prevent accidents.
- Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforces and adheres to pool rules and regulations.
- Follows emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency, administers First Aid.
- Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning.
- Inspects facilities for cleanliness; completes general pool facility cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboard, signs and other equipment).
- Provides general information on pool operation to patrons and assistance in and out of the pool when using special equipment.
- Prepares records and accident reports as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Integrity, self-motivation and the ability to work cooperatively with respect for patrons, guests, coaches and other employees.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing conduct of the public at the Charleston Rotary Aquatic Center.
- Ability to enforce rules and address patrons’ questions and concerns in a diplomatic, professional manner.
- Must maintain a degree of fitness and strength to meet the demands of the job. Must be able to lift and/or move victims, equipment, and supplies.
- LGI and/or WSI Training certification is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must pass a background check.
- Must possess orbe able to complete current Lifeguard Certification upon the first day of employment. It may not expire during the term of employment.
- Must possess orbe able to complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Lifeguards (CPR for Lifeguards) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Professional Rescuers (CPRPro, CPR for the Professional Rescuer) certificate upon first day of employment. It may not expire during the term of employment).
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must be a strong swimmer.
SCHEDULE (MAY 23-AUG 13):
- Lifeguards can expect between 10-40 hours a week depending on schedule, private swim lessons, and rental availability.
- The regular lifeguarding shifts are: 11:30 am to 4:00 pm and 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
- Swim Lessons are 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 7:00 pm.
- Rentals are from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently required to walk, sit, or stand for varying lengths of time.
- Must have the ability to stay focused.
PAY & BENEFITS
- $15.00 - $15.25 hourly wage
- 1 Personal Leave hour for every 40 hours worked
