Help support Parks and Recreation in their mission to enhance the quality of life for all through the stewardship of public land and parks and to provide quality recreational experiences. The hiring amount for this position is $17.50 an hour. This is a non-exempt, temporary (variable/limited-hour) position, and is not eligible for city benefits.
This position is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for pool guests, performing responsible semi-skilled and routine protective service work in supervising the safe use of public swimming facilities by pool visitors and aids troubled bathers in emergencies; performs related duties as required. Reports to a Lifeguard II or a designated manager on duty. This position may work at various aquatic facilities which may include indoor and or outdoor aquatic facilities depending on the season.NOTE: This job opportunity is advertised with a closing date of "Continuous." - Continuously monitors and observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety rules and pool rules;
- Provides emergency lifesaving services to swimmers in need;
- Takes part in training programs to improve lifesaving skills;
- Reports all guest and employee situations to supervisor immediately;
- Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule;
- Informs management of needed supplies or equipment-related issues;
- Follows all service standards and departmental policies and procedures;
- May give swimming instructions to individuals or groups;
- Performs related duties as required.
- Must be at least 15 years of age by employment start date.
- Must possess a current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.
- Must be available to work varied shifts including weeknights, weekends and holidays.
- Must pass periodic CPR audits.
- Must complete training with Charlottesville Parks and Recreation to include but not limited to: in-service training, sexual harassment prevention training, water testing, paperwork management and reporting.
- Previous lifeguard experience preferred.
- Certification in Oxygen Administration and Preventing Disease Transmission and Waterpark Skills Module is preferred.
Physical requirements of this position as outlined by the Department of Labor: MEDIUM: work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays and/or stand-by/on-call.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.
The majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve extreme temperatures, extreme brightness, chemicals/hazardous waste, gases/gas leaks, blood-borne pathogens, acidic or harsh substances, infectious bacteria and/or fumes/airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Salary : $18
