The preferred hiring range for this position is between $20.00 and $23.80 an hour ($41,600.00 to $49,504.00 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. Operations and Safety
HEAVY WORK: Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. frequently and/or up to 20 lbs. constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays, standy-by/on-call, emergency on-call, and/or weather-related emergency on-call.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.
The majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, extreme brightness, chemicals/hazardous waste, blood-borne pathogens, electrical hazards, extreme darkness, fumes/airborne particles and fuels.
This position also requires the regular use of or subject to vibration, ladder/step stool, traffic/roadways, driving light equipment, driving heavy equipment, driving a City vehicle, moving mechanical parts and/or confined space(s).The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Operations and Safety
- Accountable for the storage, application, disposal, of hazardous materials including pesticides, fertilizers and other turf care and maintenance products;
- Completes operational records that comply with federal, state and City regulatory standards;
- Conducts inspections of projects in progress;
- Ensures that safety regulations and procedures are followed;
- Ensures that work is completed according to maintenance standards;
- Inspects park facilities and grounds to ensure proper operation and/or adherence of safety regulations, and initiates/implements corrective measures;
- May review and oversee work of contractors or vendors;
- Operates power equipment engaged in complex and routine maintenance and construction projects;
- Oversees and is engaged in the work of assigned crews;
- Performs basic equipment maintenance and repairs related to area of specialization. May occur in the field or in the maintenance facility;
- Resolves issues in the field as they occur;
- Advises residents of City responsibility and implements corrective action to citizen requests and complaints; Represents the department in a positive way;
- Identifies general needs for volunteer workforce;
- Maintains a productive working relationship with peers and supervisor;
- Maintains a productive working relationship with subordinates;
- Responds and implements action to address and resolve inter-departmental complaints and work requests; Represents the department in a positive way;
- Works cooperatively and contributes with peers toward completing assigned tasks;
- Works cooperatively and provides guidance to volunteers to ensure completion of assigned tasks;
- Follows procedures for time and attendance reporting;
- Identifies operational deficiencies, recommends revisions, and implements recommendations using innovative strategies;

- Allocates equipment and operating supplies diligently;
- Determines required equipment and supplies and submits estimate of needs for purchase;
- Follows procedures and retains all documentation of purchases made;
- Provides input, and may assist in development of budget justifications for capital equipment, staffing and annual operating supplies;
- Tracks inventory of equipment and operating supplies;
- Actively participates in performance evaluation system;
- Conducts and documents specialized on-site staff training;
- Efficiently and effectively allocates human resources in response to unforeseen circumstances;
- Efficiently and effectively allocates human resources in the implementation of adopted maintenance plan;
- May assist in conducting assessment interviews to determine appropriate placement based on interests, skills and abilities of seasonal staff and volunteers;
- May assist in the hiring process by participating on interview panels or equipment testing;
- Schedules and dispatches crews and oversees the daily activities of a small staff.
- Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
- At least three (3) years of experience in a related field.
- Possession of a valid, appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must be eligible to operate a City vehicle;
- Requires a Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment;
- Requires a VDOT Flagger certification within 6 months of hire;
- Supplemental college level or technical / vocational school course work in related subjects preferred.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a lead/supervisory position preferred.
