This position performs responsible semi-skilled work in a variety of construction, repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of specialized tools; occasionally operates specialized equipment such as front-end loader, dump truck, jackhammer, tamper, and other related equipment in connection with the semi-skilled tasks assigned to the Water/Wastewater Division in the Department of Utilities. Does related work as required.Â
The preferred hiring range for a Maintenance Worker III is between $19.66 - $20.85 Hourly. ($40,892.80 - $43,368.00 Annually). As of March 28, 2024, this position is in the Labor and Trades bargaining unit in accordance with the City's Collective Bargaining Ordinance (Ordinance No. 22-128). Starting pay for this position is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. Future wage adjustments are subject to terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement between the City and the exclusive bargaining representative. The parties are in the process of negotiating the collective bargaining agreement, which will take effect on July 1, 2025.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City's retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

Requires the ability to perform strenuous manual labor, often under unfavorable conditions, including considerable walking, lifting, stooping and carrying.Â
Positions in the Public Utilities or Public Works Departments are subject to mandatory emergency and stand by call and with minimum response time requirements.Â

- Responsible for facilities, grounds and City infrastructure maintenance functions;Â
- May have a lead role or be responsible for construction and maintenance projects;
- Performs repairs and completes maintenance assignments;
- May be exposed to or required to use chemicals in general maintenance responsibilities;
- May serve in a lead role in skilled work and the use of hand tools and maintenance equipment;
- Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with custodial, construction and maintenance operations;
- Operates vehicles as required;
- Must have the willingness and flexibility to work as a member of one or several teams or independently to complete assigned tasks;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. (If no diploma or GED is obtained, must have a minimum of two (2) years of direct work experience in the field.)
- Requires a minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar position as a skilled worker in the maintenance, repair and or construction activity to which assigned;
- Requires some prior experience in the operation of the equipment to which assigned.

- Requires the ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of hire.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment DOT physical.
