POSITION PURPOSE / SUMMARY
This position is responsible for patrolling areas of the City to enforce the City's parking ordinances including the issuance of parking infractions. Work also involves monitoring and reporting traffic hazards, unsafe conditions on city streets, sidewalks and Right of Way, and providing information and assistance to the public.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promotes positive public relations;
- Patrols assigned areas of the city on foot and in a vehicle;
- Issues citations for illegally parked vehicles, involving overtime, double parking and loading zone violations etc.;
- Responds to public requests for location of streets, schools, hospital / clinic and related information;
- Administers emergency first aid if needed and reports unusual activities or situations observed in the normal course of work;
- Performs other duties as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work involves patrolling on foot and in a city assigned vehicle. Employee is subject to inclement weather, moderate traffic hazards and difficult citizens.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS FOR SUCCESS
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) supplemented with an acceptable level of experience in parking, law or code enforcement; the ability to communicate well verbally and in written form and good customer service / public relations skills.
Must be able to speak, read and write the English language.
Valid Washington State Drivers License with driving record free from serious or frequent violations.
