What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant I - Chesapeake Interagency Consortium position at City of Chesapeake?
Shift: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Starting rate may be higher depending on education and experience
The purpose this position is to perform accounting functions and provide support to personnel for assigned area of responsibility. The position is responsible for analyzing accounts, preparing and processing related information, maintaining financial records and reports, and reconciling various accounts. The position works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
TYPICAL TASKS
Researches and analyzes financial and accounting records to determine sequence of operations and account resolutions. Makes recommendations for, plans, implements, and/or administers account resolutions and related activities. Coordinates and participates in the processing of account related information such as budget preparation, payroll, accounts receivable, and/or accounts payable. Prepares and maintains various financial reports. Verifies, monitors, and reconciles accounts. Collects, enters, updates, and maintains account information. Interacts with staff, different departments, and/or external agencies to ensure accuracy of accounts, responds to inquiries, and provides accounting support. Performs related tasks as necessary such as providing supervision for subordinate staff. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
