What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver I - PSR position at City of Chesapeake?
7:00am – 9:00am/3:00pm – 5:00pm
Monday – Friday
- Schedule fluctuates on the demands of the program.
Actual starting rate depends on skills and experience.
The Driver I task include:
- Operates van on assigned route and schedule to transport passengers to and from the Psycho-social Rehabilitation Services program, recreational/social activities, or other services.
- Maintains records of passenger’s attendance and behavior, mileage covered per trip, and condition of vehicle.
- Manages and Supervises passengers, ensuring safe orderly behavior.
- Completes and submits passenger incident, and vehicle or passenger accidental reports.
- Maintains cleanliness of vehicle including taking out trash, sanitizing the interior and taking to a car wash as needed or assigned.
- Checks vehicle for operational problems and reports problems to supervisor, drop off vans or pick them up from the City Garage; replenishes fuel at City gas sites. Provide jump starts as needed.
- Serves as courier to make pickups and deliveries, including court documents, City Treasury deposits, mail and supplies.
- Communicates/interacts with passengers and/or other staff regarding concerns or issues passengers in order to get them resolved.
- Operate a 15-passenger van as well as cell phones, GPS, computers, copiers, office telephones and other office equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to the satisfactory completion of one year of college education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires at least a valid CDL Class C license to operate a multi-passenger vehicle with an occupancy of 16 or more passengers. May be required to obtain a CDL Class B license with Passenger Certification based on assignment. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City’s Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
