We are looking for someone to help us deliver new and innovative programs and events while providing exemplary customer service.
The Library Assistant position requires exemplary customer service skills. Responsibilities include: assisting with the promotion of literacy and STEM/STEAM programming; assisting and instructing customers in acquiring library cards, checking out materials, and finding print and electronic materials; providing homework help, research support, and computer assistance; delivering high-quality programming to schools and community locations; promoting CPL services and programs using approved social media; and participating in CPL system-wide committees.
The weekly schedule is varied and includes day, evening and weekend hours and may also include after-hours programming.
Requires instruction that is sufficient for satisfactory job performance.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience in public libraries or customer service-related industry or volunteerism equivalent to 6 months’ part-time work experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
An acceptable criminal history and Child Protective Services (CPS) reports are required.
The selected candidate may be transferred to another library location if and when a need arises.
An in-basket exercise will be administered to candidates that are selected for interview.
