Job Description
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner operates as part of a comprehensive 23-Hour Crisis Stabilization team that provides ongoing assessment, crisis intervention and clinical determination for level of care to individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing person-centered, trauma-informed care to these individuals with the goal of stabilization at the least restrictive level of care and an emphasis on post crisis growth.
The ideal candidate for the PsychiatricNurse Practitioner will have experience working in a crisis program with psychiatric conditions as well as knowledge of the DSM-V, corresponding psychiatric medications, medical and mental health co-morbidities as well as local community resources for continuity of care referrals.
Typical Tasks Include:
Conducts comprehensive, on-demand psychiatric evaluations on adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis and determines diagnosis when appropriate.
Develops and implements care plans including the administration of medication and case management, makes referrals for other care providers as needed, and documents accordingly.
Serves as a clinical resource for other clinical staff, which may include participation in staff meetings.
Develops, provides, or obtains resources for staff and/or individual education on topics to include health maintenance, health promotion, and disease prevention.
May perform outreach/public relations functions to promote available programs/services in the community.
Orders and evaluates diagnostic/laboratory testing.
Prepares related documentation/reports in a confidential manner within CIBH’s EHR.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required; a master’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT:
Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Practitioner experience preferred. Previous public health and/or adult health experience preferred, including experience in the provision of long-acting contraceptive methods.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES:
Requires licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner pursuant to the requirements set forth in Virginia State Code with current prescriptive authority in Virginia.
Board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and current active RN licensure is also required.
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City’s Driving Standards.
Must possess current CPR certification or ability to complete within three months of hire.
SPECIALREQUIREMENT:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
