Job Description
The City of Chesapeake’s Planning Department is seeking a motivated planning professional to join our team. This position acts as a project manager and provides professional analysis used by the Planning Commission and City Council to make discretionary land use decisions. The Planner II position performs professional planning functions related to land use applications such as Planned Unit Developments, Text Amendments to City Code, subdivision plat review, rezonings, conditional use permits, and site and subdivision plan reviews.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience with plan review and the public hearing process for land development, and demonstrated leadership characteristics are preferred.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONALREQUIREMENT: Requires a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in planning or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES: Depending on operational needs, may require a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with the City Driving Standards.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
