Events Technician l – Recreation Facilities
JOB TITLE: Programs and Facilities Events Technician I – Recreation Facilities
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT: CRE/Programs & Facilities
SUPERVISOR: Events Technician II and Programs & Facilities Manager
SALARY: $36,135 to $43,362 Annually
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
To perform custodial tasks, recreation building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and to perform a variety of related tasks as assigned. To supervise the use of recreational public facilities, including public relation skills in administering facility schedules and policies. Scheduling will include Sundays.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary duties will be to monitor, clean and maintain recreation buildings including parking area, restrooms, grounds, and other assigned areas.
- Perform daily custodial duties – sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot/shampoo carpets, dust, clean office furniture, clean interior/exterior windows and glass doors, clean/disinfect bathroom areas inside/outside, stock toilet paper/paper towels, clean/disinfect kitchen areas, empty and clean trash receptacles inside/outside, replace light bulbs, etc.
- Perform maintenance in the repair of offices such as: hang doors, install door closures and hardware; repair damaged drywall, plaster, roofing, and doors; repair or replace window frames and broken windows; paint of walls, trim, etc.; maintain floors to include wood, tile, and carpeted areas using appropriate procedures.
- Responsible for the installation and maintenance of equipment; make recommendations on purchases of equipment and supplies; inspect building and grounds for repairs needed; perform visual check of heating/air conditioning systems.
- Troubleshoot various plumbing systems, make necessary repairs, operate variety of plumbing, construction, maintenance equipment and tools.
- Work independently and without much supervision.
- Grounds maintenance includes – mowing, trimming, aerating, fertilizing, and snow removal around recreation facilities; sweep, clear and maintain sidewalks and curb flow lines; employ automated and/or manual means to remove snow and ice.

- Public relations and appropriate communication skills in working with the public.
- Basic methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
- Routine tools and materials used in plumbing, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.
- Work within confined spaces.
- Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude towards the public and staff.
- Perform a variety of additional related duties and functions assigned.
- Must successfully work independently without constant supervision.
- Become familiar with and operate powered and manual equipment.
- Understanding and executing written or oral instruction.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Required:
High school diploma or GED with experience with custodial, plumbing, building maintenance and grounds maintenance.
Preferred:
Experience in custodial, building maintenance, customer service, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds maintenance. Familiarity with maintenance equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain the physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Working Environment:
Position requires irregular hours, nights, weekends, and Holidays, working directly with the Public and the City work force. Exposure to inclement weather. Traveling from site-to-site walking and occasionally pushing or otherwise operating equipment. Exposure to waste, infectious materials, vehicular traffic, noise, dust smoke fumes, and cleaning chemicals.
