OPEE Assistant Director
Department: Recreation – OPEE Summer Adventures
Employment Status: Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt, Seasonal (Hours Varies)
Salary: $20.00/Hour
Schedule: Mon – Fri; 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License (Preferred with Insurable driving record), Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D.
SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s Recreation Department, OPEE Summer Adventures Division is hiring an OPEE Assistant Director who will assist in the planning, directing, and supervising of all camp programs and staff. To oversee all groups of children, take records, schedule activities and evaluate staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Define camp goals and/or define and plan program to reflect camp goals.
- Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings.
- Order or supervise the ordering of food, supplies, and equipment, and arrange for proper distribution.
- Set and supervise office procedures, opening-and closing-day procedures for staff and campers.
- Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for camp operation.
- Assign staff activities and other responsibilities.
- Supervise and evaluate, or supervise evaluations of, all operations and program staff.
- Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff, and facilities.
- Prepare an evaluation and summary of current season including inventories, staff evaluations, camper rep01is, and recommendations for the following season.
- Define and monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
- Organize and/or approve trips out of camp for program, supplies, and crisis management.
- Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License (Preferred with Insurable driving record) – Required
- Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D. - Required
- Age 21 and above - Required
- Experience as a supervisor. - Required
- At least (2) two years’ experience in working with children. – Required
- College Degree – Preferred
