As a Payroll Supervisor in the Finance Department, you will plan, coordinate, and oversee all payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with extensive knowledge of payroll administration, including CalPERS reporting, Fair Labor Standards Act regulations, and pertinent federal, state, and local laws. You must possess advanced expertise in payroll software while demonstrating a strong ability to lead, train, and motivate staff effectively. This supervisory role involves significant accountability and independent decision-making.

Duties / Responsibilities
Examples of Typical Job Functions :
- Monitors activities of the work unit; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery and procedures; provides recommendations concerning process changes; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements.
- Coordinates, oversees, and participates in a full spectrum of payroll activities; ensures timely and accurate posting of payroll to the financial accounting system; coordinates the wire transfer of funds for direct deposit, payroll taxes, and employee deductions to various banking institutions.
- Ensures accurate reporting of changes in pay, payroll status, taxes, benefits, deductions, and retroactive pay adjustments.
- Ensures compliance with reporting mandates; submits appropriate forms and transmits information to government agencies, including the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Employee Development Department (EDD).
- Compiles, analyzes, and reconciles a variety of records in the preparation of documents and reports.
- Answers employee questions regarding payroll and benefit deductions; explains requirements, policies and procedures.
- Prepares calculations and estimates forecasting costs associated with negotiations.
- Prepares reports and analysis required by auditors.
