Class and Compensation study and Cost of Living Adjustment resulted in annual wage adjustments: 4% increase effective July 1, 2024.
Examples of Typical Job Functions:
- Receive referrals regarding potential clients and provide feedback.
- Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions, including court-mandated classes; aid in understanding the need for treatment.
- Perform crisis intervention and refer clients to appropriate treatment sources.
- Collaborate with the Police Department on cases of pre-delinquent behavior, gang activity, child abuse, and unfit homes.
- Build and maintain relationships with governmental and community agencies.
- Maintain case files, records, and statistical information.
- Obtain necessary program equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Assist in training and supervising volunteers and other Counselors.
- Develop and update curriculum topics.
- Establish and enforce group rules, ensuring confidentiality.
- Foster a collaborative and customer service-oriented work environment.
- Adhere to the City’s Mission Statement and Organizational Values while maintaining regular attendance.
- Fluency in Spanish (reading and writing) may be required.
- Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or related field (required for Youth and Teen Counseling Programs). Enrollment in graduate-level coursework in a relevant field is required.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current registration as an intern with the Board of Behavioral Services is desirable.
- Experience:
- PC 1000 Program Group Facilitator: Must meet San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health Drug and Alcohol Services Deferred Entry of Judgment program standards.
- Choices Program Group Facilitator: Must meet San Bernardino County Probation Department’s Batterer Intervention program standards.
Knowledge of:
- Counseling principles, methods, and techniques.
- Family dynamics and relationships.
- Community mental health resources.
- Relevant laws and regulations.
- Cultural differences among ethnic and economic groups.
Ability to:
- Liaise with other agencies and the community.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Supervise and train interns.
- Plan and implement program activities.
- Present information to various media.
- Apply basic counseling techniques.
- Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Interact tactfully and courteously with customers.
- Follow directions and establish cooperative working relationships.
- Use a computer and various software programs.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work in a standard office setting and use office equipment, including computers.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person and by phone.
- Finger dexterity for data entry and using office equipment.
- Occasionally bend stoop, kneel, and reach; lift, push, and pull objects up to 20 pounds.
