What are the responsibilities and job description for the BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR position at City of Cincinnati?
Under the supervision of the Breastfeeding Peer Supervisor this employee is responsible for providing breastfeeding information to pregnant and breastfeeding women, making referrals to the WIC staff, following WIC policy and procedures and assisting with the breastfeeding activities of the WIC project.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Must have a valid Driver’s License.
WIC knowledge, or have one time been a WIC participant with knowledge and understanding of program is strongly preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to successfully complete 20 hours of State approved training after hire.Examples of Work Performed

Position and latch-on
Normal infant feeding
How to tell if baby is getting enough
How to return to work/school
How to use a breast pump
How to wean a baby from breast feeding
Make referrals to the lactation consultant or other health care professional when needed.
Complete appropriate documentation on all participants
Assist with group classes, conduct breastfeeding support meetings
Serve as a breastfeeding resource person to WIC staff.
Maintain equipment and supplies necessary for the job.
Assist with clinic and health fair displays
Perform related duties as required.
