ABOUT THE CUAMPO and RPC :
The Clarksville Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) has an exciting opportunity for a Transportation Planner with CUAMPO, the Clarksville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Our MPO coordinates transportation planning activities in support of the Planning Region, RPC, and local, state, and federal governments. CUAMPO is a conduit for coordinating transportation plans and programs needed to support state and local comprehensive plans and provides a forum for improving communication and understanding between local governments and state agencies. CUAMPO is dedicated to developing equitable, sustainable, and efficient transportation systems in our metropolitan area. As we move our focus toward Complete Streets and the Safe Systems approach, our planning efforts are directed toward creating a safer, more accessible, and interconnected environment for all users.
Totaling over 590 square miles, CUAMPO is a unique two-state MPO serving all of the City of Clarksville and Montgomery County, Tennessee, as well as the City of Oak Grove within a portion of Christian County, Kentucky.

ABOUT THE JOB :
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Transportation Planner to join our dynamic team. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about urban planning, sustainable transportation, and enhancing community safety. The successful candidate will assist in the development and implementation of transportation plans, projects, and policies that align with the principles of Complete Streets and the Safe Systems approach.
Typical Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Assist in research, analysis, and evaluation of transportation needs and challenges within the metropolitan area.
- Support the development of transportation plans, reports, and presentations that promote Complete Streets and Safe Systems initiatives.
- Conduct field studies, surveys, and data collection to assess transportation conditions and user experiences.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to gather input and feedback on transportation projects and strategies.
- Help prepare graphics, maps, and visual aids to communicate planning concepts and project proposals effectively.
- Stay informed on best practices, including policies, programs, and innovations related to transportation systems.
- Participate in public outreach efforts, including community meetings and workshops, to engage residents and stakeholders in the planning process.
- Assist or lead in the development of grant applications and funding proposals for transportation projects.
- Understand and use demographic information, GIS, and other data to make the case for policy, regulation, or ordinance changes.
- Provide technical advice and information to city and county departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and private citizens relative to land use and planning.
- Attend and conduct meetings, seminars, and training sessions as needed.

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
A bachelor's degree in City, Urban, or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field.
Membership(s) in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), Urban Land Institute (ULI), and / or Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) are desired but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Positions in this class typically require : talking, hearing, seeing, and manual dexterity.
Light Work : Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up-to 10 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Out-of-office work on or in proximity to urban or rural roadways or may be subjected to uneven, rough terrain at work sites at remote locations which may require using steps, ladders, or unpaved pathways.
Incumbents may rarely be subjected to extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
