The City of Clayton is accepting applications for up to two (2) Engineering Intern positions in the Public Works Department. Applicants should add a note indicating a preference in which internship when applying.
- Transportation Intern : Work primarily on roadway construction, permitting, or asset management projects.
- Facility & Fleet Intern : Work primarily on facility and fleet-related projects and asset management.
Successful candidates will assume an administrative and engineering role that involves performing duties and responsibilities commonly assigned to entry level engineering employees. The Civil Engineering Intern duties may include construction / permit inspections for roadway, alley, sidewalk, and streetscape projects; tracking and documentation of construction project quantities; surveys of City sidewalks and other infrastructure to determine necessary repairs. The Mechanical Engineering intern may include reading plans to confirm building component and equipment data and vehicle inventory and other City assets using asset management software, and other duties as assigned.
Salary range $18.00-19.00 per hour. Requirements include a valid Driver's License, ability to drive a City vehicle for business purposes, and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred qualifications include : (1) civil or mechanical engineering students who have completed their sophomore year in college; (2) prior in-field construction, material testing, or inspection experience; and (3) knowledge of GIS and / or AutoCAD.

Internship applications are accepted until an adequate pool of applicants have applied. First review of applicants will take place on or after February 28, 2025 , and as needed afterward. The anticipated internship duration is mid-May through mid-August 2025.
Successful candidates for the position will be required to successfully complete additional screening including, but not limited to the following : Background investigation, motor vehicle record check, employment and reference checks, pre-employment physical and drug screening.
