Duties include cleaning kennels, cages, and buildings; administering medications and vaccinations; walking and bathing animals. Other duties may include but are not limited to assisting with the adoption of animals, answering phones, and other duties as required. Office and field environment; exposure to a variety of domestic and wild animals; inclement weather conditions.NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of operations and services of an animal control programKnowledge of common dog and cat breeds and coat colorsKnowledge of common illnesses and medical conditions of domestic animalsKnowledge of computerized record keeping and filing methodsFamiliar with methods and techniques of animal controlKnowledge of principles and practices of animal behavior and animal careAbility to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilitiesMust be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful, considerate manner; concerned and interested in providing humane treatment for animalsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEHigh school education or its equivalent and at least one year’s experience working with animals; ORAny equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilitiesCERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIREDA Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving recordENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDSPrimarily in an indoor environment with the ability to operate outdoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDStandard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, printer, etc. Chemicals and standard cleaning supplies, including but not limited to sprayers, mops, squeegees, etc.
