What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ice Skate / Safety Guard position at City of Cleveland Heights?
Skate guards are responsible for the overall safety and monitoring of ice programs, which include public and adult sessions, learn to skate lessons, hockey games, and special events. Must be able to respond calmly and effectively when handling medical emergencies. Must be friendly, courteous, mature, and enthusiastic when meeting the public.
CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE:
Must be at least sixteen years of age and able to obtain a valid work permit
Standard First Aid / CPR preferred
- Monitor activities during all public sessions
- Initial handling of on-ice injuries
- Distribute rental skates and handling return of skates
- Report patron disciplinary problems and complaints promptly to supervisor
- Assist with hockey games, figure skating competitions, speedskating meets, and private and group rentals
- Inventory levels of supplies and reset towel machines
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Comply with required dress code, wearing required uniform and conduct expectations
- Keep work area clean and presentable
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Provide quality customer service
- Participate in teamwork productively
- Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
