ELECTRICAL SAFETY INSPECTOR
Under general supervision, makes inspection of electric wiring, apparatus, and other installations for the purpose of insuring compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations. Performs related duties as required. TYPICAL TASKS: Makes inspection of electric wiring, electric signs, and the installation of electric motors and other equipment for the purpose of insuring compliance with laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Inspects finished work and work in process. Examines permits for the installation of electrical equipment. Keeps necessary records. Reports violations and non-compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, regulations. Prepares reports.
(Note: this classification utilizes the working titles of Electrical Safety Inspector Trainee, I, II, III, or IV depending on the certifications held and the examinations taken. Also, employees must be in each level at least one year before going on to the next level.) A High School Diploma or GED is required. One of the following is required: (1) Must be a Journeyman Electrician OR equivalent for four years, two as an Electrician Unit Leader, and two years as a building department ESI trainee; (2) Must be a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent for four years and have three years' experience as a building department ESI trainee; (3) Must have four years' experience as a building department ESI trainee; (4) Must be a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent for six years; (5) Must be an Electrical Engineer registered in the State of Ohio; or (6) meet the experience qualifications of the State of Ohio Building Code to be an ESI Trainee. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required. ELECTRICAL SAFETY INSPECTOR I - State of Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) certification as an Electrical Safety Inspector is required and must be maintained throughout employment for all but Trainees. |
