Groundskeeper

WORK OBJECTIVE:

General maintenance of grounds and athletic fields at Sugarland Park Sports Complex.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this position. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

• Sprays chemicals.
• Operates equipment such as small tractors, riding mowers, push mowers, utility machines, and paint-marking machines.
• Maintains ballpark grounds by removing trash, paper, and other debris.
• Mows and trims ballpark grounds and roadways.
• Drags, lines, and prepares ballfields daily (during season).
• Performs daily safety checks.
• Acts as supervisor at various events and ball games at the Sports Complex.
• Work split shifts during season.
• Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or combination of both. Must possess valid Florida Driver’s License. Chemical spray license is highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and comprehend simple instructions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with the public.
• Background and experience in grounds and facility maintenance preferred.
• Capable of continuous physical activity, including but not limited to walking, lifting, banding, digging and kneeling.
• Capable of working in an outside environment.
• Capable of following instructions.
• Capable of attendance and promptness within established parameters.
• Capable of working weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending on the functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
