Job Summary
Maintains and repairs lift stations, the sewer collection system and water lines, meters and valves.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Monitors and maintains lift station control panels, pumps, valves and wet wells.
- Locates buried lines for contractors.
- Connects water and sewer lines to mains.
- Inspects construction of new sewers and manholes to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Cleans sewer lines and lift stations, repairing broken sewer lines, and replacing worn and damaged parts.
- Repairs breaks in water and sewer lines.
- Operates and repairs equipment such as backhoe, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in the repair and maintenance of sewers.
- Any other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; completion of wastewater collection short course school; and five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have excellent written and oral skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with the public, supervisors, commissioners, staff, and other City employees. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Considerable independent judgment and discretion is involved when representing the City in communications with the public and employees.
- Must have supervisory skills.
- Must know how to operate boom truck and electrical test equipment.
- Must have mechanical skills in specific area of responsibilities.
- Capable of continuous physical activities including but not limited to prioritizing work tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of meeting deadlines.
- Must be familiar with the operation of various hand tools, chain saw, clipper stick, climbing hooks, hydraulic saw and drill, line truck, and book truck.
- Must live within one mile of the city limits.
- Must be available to be on call after working hours, weekends, and holidays.

Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
