What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Maintenance position at City of Clive (IA)?
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Aquatic Managers, performs a wide variety of procedures necessary to ensure the upkeep and operation of the Clive Aquatic Center. The focus of this position is the facility maintenance and grounds of the Clive Aquatic Center. This position performs a variety of specialized and practical tasks related to cleaning, pool maintenance, operations, and assurance of water quality standards.
Examples of Essential Job Functions
- Cleans Clive Aquatic Center and equipment: swimming pool, pool deck, equipment areas, locker rooms, concessions, showers, etc. for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary and safe condition.
- Report any water clarity problems or alarms to the supervisor.
- Performs minor repairs to swimming pool equipment and facilities.
- Vacuum pools, leaf blow, and power wash facility using the equipment.
- Trash management in and around the aquatic center.
- Assists with setup and/ or movement of equipment
- Patch and maintain innertubes.
- Report any broken safety or mechanical equipment to the appropriate supervisor.
Other Job Duties
- Works mornings or nights to ensure facility maintenance is well-kept and ready for aquatics operation.
- Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
- Janitorial duties in and around aquatic facility
- Landscaping items around the aquatic facility
- Completing opening and closing checklists
- Be on time at the start time of the shift
- Communicate any special situations or concerns
- Adhere to all facility rules and policies

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to think logically and follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions using several abstract or concrete variables.
- Ability to follow instructions and directives.
- Knowledge of the facility and the safety procedures used.
- Knowledge of general janitorial/ maintenance practices.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with superiors, co-workers, and the public: the ability to tactfully handle a wide array of social situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required- Continued education in High School or above.
Experience Required
- Any work in recreation facilities is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age and hold a current valid driver’s license.
- Must have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of best cleaning practices using several power tools and/ or cleaning equipment.
Required Physical Activities: Sitting, Standing, Kneeling, Reaching, Climbing, Walking, Fingering, Talking, Watching, Hearing, Repetitive Motions, lifting, carrying, pushing, and or pulling.
Physical Characteristics of the Job: Medium work requiring the exertion of up to seventy-five (75) pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty-five (36) pounds of force frequently.
Environmental Characteristics: The work is performed both inside and outside and includes seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The work may expose the employee to unpleasant social situations, significant work pace pressures and at times irregular work hours.
Equipment and materials used: Thermometers, general office equipment, computer printer, computer network, Water testing equipment, MSDS Documentation, personnel policies, telephone, radio, PA system, and lockers.
