What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Swim Lesson Coordinator position at City of Clive (IA)?
Under the administrative direction of the Recreation Coordinator, performs a wide variety of procedures necessary to ensure the safety of the aquatic facility’s patrons and its programs. This position is responsible for assisting the setup and delivery of the aquatic programming with a heavy focus on the American Red Cross Learn To Swim Program, supervising seasonal personnel, supervising the aquatic facility, performing basic maintenance procedures on the filtration system, performing chemical tests, assisting the scheduling of aquatic employees and authorizing staff shift changes, cleaning duties as assigned, working required shifts, supervising young children, teens, and adult patrons, enforcing facility rules and policies, and engaging in effective communication and public relations with facility patrons.
Examples of Essential Job Functions
- Responsibility for the safety, water safety, and sanitation of the pool facility and programming.
- Conduct staff orientation and training along with the Recreation Coordinator.
- Preparation of work schedule as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator.
- Completion of State Health requirements and forms, including chemical test forms, controller adjustment forms, first aid forms, cleaning reports, equipment check reports, and incident reports.
- Communicate with the Recreation Coordinator for facility and staff needs.
- Responsible for opening and closing the facility.
- Responsible for the daily chemical tests and chemical balance of the facility.
- Acquire patron satisfaction surveys for aquatic programming.
- Provide continual feedback to instructors based on swim lesson survey feedback.
- Assist the Recreation Coordinator in the evaluation of swim lesson staff at season completion.
- Assist in all daily operations of the pool. Directs staff in daily aquatic facility operations.
- Handle public concerns, problems, or suggestions in a calm and professional manner.
- Know and demonstrate the emergency action plan for the facility.
- Wear the staff uniform while on duty, including a whistle, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

QUALIFICATIONS
Education Required
- Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
- Most hold current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
- Worked at an aquatic venue for 2 years.
Experience Required
- Two-years of experience within pool operations or other management experience.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age and hold Current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certifications required (CPO, LGI, and WSI certifications desired.)
- Must have knowledge of pool water quality control and mechanical functions of pool equipment
- As with all staff, lifeguards must be in good physical condition, have good verbal communication skills, show initiative, be dependable, show enthusiasm, and have the desire to serve the public.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Iowa driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Physical Characteristics of the Job
Medium work requires the exertion of up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally and up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force frequently.
Environmental Characteristics
The work is performed both inside and outside and includes seasonal exposure to heat and cold. The work may expose the employee to unpleasant social situations, significant work pace pressures and at times irregular work hours.
