What are the responsibilities and job description for the ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER position at City of Clovis, NM?
Under general supervision, this position is routine enforcement in the control, care, custody and disposal of animals, involving the enforcement of City ordinances and regulations. This position works forty hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is also subject to infrequent call-back after hours and during weekends and holidays, work schedule will vary.
**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.**
- Picks up, handles and cares for stray, wild or vicious animals; prepares and impounds animals for quarantine.
- Assists in the orderly operation, cleaning and maintenance of the Animal Shelter.
- Investigates complaints regarding animals which are running loose.
- Patrols the City looking for stray or wild animals which may prove a threat to community health and welfare.
- Issues citations for violations of local Animal Control Ordinance, appears in Municipal Court to sign complaints and testify on appeal.
- Assists with permanent disposal of unclaimed, sick, or injured animals.
- Prepares and submits reports and records on enforcement activities and daily operations.
- Provides information, advice, and assistance to the general public.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Work experience involving the care and handling of animals is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record to meet insurance requirements.
Licenses and Certificates
- Must possess a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver License or be able to obtain within 6 months.
Working Conditions:
- This position is exposed to loud animal noises, water on floor surfaces, animal waste, and cleaning chemicals.
- Exposure to all types of weather conditions, uneven surfaces for walking or running, various obstacles while trying to catch or locate animals.
