What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Assistant PT 19 hours/week no benefits position at City of Clovis, NM?
Under close supervision this position is responsible for assisting in the oversight of activities, facilities and patrons of the recreation center. This is a part-time position working no more than 19 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.
**This position has been classified as a safety sensitive position and is subject to our drug testing policy to include pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident for the following prohibited substances: marijuana, amphetamines, opioids, phencyclidine (PCP), and cocaine, as well as any drug not approved for medical use by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.**- Issues equipment and provides routine instruction in the use of equipment and the facility.
- Sets-up and takes-down recreational equipment.
- Enforces recreation center rules, regulations and safety policies among patrons, to prevent injuries and damage to recreation areas and equipment.
- Instructs operation of scoring devices for basketball, volleyball and other court events. Answers inquiries concerning programs and use of the facility.
- Promptly reports lost, stolen or damaged equipment to the Recreation Center Administrator.
- Defuses and resolves disagreements and conflicts between patrons.
- Performs recreation center opening and closing duties.
- Keeps restrooms, gymnasiums, multi-purpose room, lobby, and weight room clean and orderly.
- Replenishes supplies as needed.
- Assists and participates in the execution of short and long-range plans.
- Ensures effective and efficient use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities and time.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Six (6) months experience providing recreational or cultural programs and activities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would likely produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certificates:
- First Aid and CPR certifications within six (6) months of employment.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Municipal organization operations, policies and procedures.
- Tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in recreation operations and facilities.
- Various games and recreational activities.
- Basic methods of facilities cleaning and maintenance.
Skills in:
- Use of recreation equipment.
- Effective verbal communication.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, City staff, and the public.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Orally communicate clearly and concisely.
Physical Requirements
- Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
- Use repetitive hand movements, fine coordination and manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment, computer systems and set up various sports equipment and games.
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to permit the employee to discern verbal instructions, use a phone, and communicate with others.
- Sufficient visual acuity which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written materials.
Working Conditions
- Work typically performed in a standard office and recreational center setting.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services.
- Frequent work beyond normal business hours.
- Position is subject to drug testing and background check in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
