The current vacancy is for the night shift position with hours from 2 : 00 PM to 10 : 30 PM
DEFINITION
Under close supervision, to service diesel and gasoline-powered equipment; and to perform related work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class perform unskilled and limited semi-skilled work in the service, maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment under supervision and may, under immediate supervision or as an assistant, perform skilled repair and maintenance work in a training capacity. At this level, repair and maintenance work typically includes cleaning equipment, changing tires, lubrication, minor body and fender work, routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs, replacements and adjustments. Positions in this class perform work which is highly structured, which seldom varies, and which is performed in accordance with established instructions. Incumbents receive thorough instructions when tasks are initially assigned and after training are expected to perform duties without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion and while in progress. Incumbents are expected to refer most variations in work to supervisor for instructions.
Examples of Duties
Inspects and services diesel and gasoline-powered equipment; lubricates automobiles, trucks and other motorized equipment; operates motorized equipment in connection with repair and servicing; changes and repairs tires; cleans, washes and polishes motor equipment; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and assists on major repairs; obtains equipment parts; steam cleans refuse trucks; fuels refuse trucks; checks undercarriage of trucks for damage; replaces work tires; performs minor body and fender work; cleans upholstery and headlining; cleans and maintains work areas, hand tools and equipment; requisitions supplies and parts; operates City vehicles; and performs related work as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Strength : Medium work lifting, carrying and / or pushing 50 pounds with frequent lifting and / or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Applicants must meet each qualification for the position by the deadline date. All applications will be reviewed based on the necessary employment standards for the position. Those candidates who best meet the needs of the operations may be invited to participate in a written examination that will be weighted 100%. Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligibility list. Applicants receiving a passing score may be placed on an eligibility list for a period of up to one year. Examinations and department interviews for the position will be administered in the City of Clovis. As determined by the City and at the City's expense, successful candidates shall be required to pass a medical examination, a drug / alcohol screen, and a background investigation. Possession of a valid California driver's license and good driving record will be required prior to hire. Proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
The examination may consist of questions relative to knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment employed in the service and repair of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment; common lubricants and their applications; provisions of the California Vehicle code applying to the operation of vehicles on the highway and appropriate safety precautions and procedures. The exam may also contain questions regarding the ability to demonstrate mechanical aptitude; use a variety of tools and equipment with skill and safety; care and maintain tools; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices; read, understand and apply moderately difficult materials; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
