PARKING ENFORCEMENT SPECIALIST – PART TIME
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Part-time position; 24 hours per week, including weekends and holidays; benefits not included. Starting pay $17.22/hour.
Candidates for this position must be able to pass the Florida Criminal Information Center (FCIC) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) background check to gain access to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) databases.
Under general supervision, performs responsible specialized work enforcing City ordinances governing vehicles parking; issues parking tickets, conducts school crossing guard duties, traffic direction and traffic control. Upon completion of training, work is performed with limited supervision, requiring use of independent judgement, and the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public. Reports directly to the Parking Enforcement Specialist Supervisor, or in the absence of, an on-duty Police supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Monitors public parking areas within City to control violations. Issues parking tickets for kiosk violations, overtime parking, unauthorized parking in handicapped spaces, fire zones, freight loading zones, improper parking and all no-parking areas. Turns in all generated documentation and tickets as required by standard operating procedures.
- Reports any hazardous, or potentially hazardous street, traffic signal and sign, or parking lot, beach-end street, and beach crossover conditions, as well as all malfunctioning parking kiosk.
- Assists the public by giving directions or general information. Acts as courier for Departmental and City records as needed or assigned.
- Appears and testifies in court as required.
- Performs routine clerical duties in the office.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Requires satisfactory completion of in-house Florida Parking Enforcement Specialist Training, Traffic Direction and Control Training and School Crossing Guard Training. Valid Florida Driver’s license, Class E, with a clean driving record. Weekend and holiday work is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: : Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated machines which include a mobile telephone, two-way radio, basic computer applications, calculator, copier, facsimile machine etc. Must be able to exert in excess of 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force, frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may involve walking and standing. Physical demand requirements are for Medium Work.
