Description
Serves as a staff member for the City's Summer Day Camp Program. This is a temporary position, which carries no employee benefits or paid time off. Campers are ages 6 through 13 years of age.
$15.00/hourly - Minimum of six (6) months of verifiable experience working with children coordinating activities in a camp, school, or recreation program or Certified Teachers with six (6) months of teaching experience in a school setting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises campers by assigned age groups
- Coordinates, plans, and implements arts & crafts, recreation and athletic games, as well as plays and/or presentations for Summer Day Camp special events
- Plans and implements organized methods of play and other activities during scheduled times of day
- Ensures the safety of each participant in assigned group
- Communicates with campers' parents/guardians regarding individual/group accomplishments or poor behavior
- Performs limited park/facility maintenance such as garbage removal, restroom maintenance and policing debris
- Maintains rosters, attendance forms, dismissal forms, incident report forms and accident report forms as required by the Department
- Works under close supervision of the Camp Coordinator and/or Parks & Recreation Supervisor
- Exercises leadership techniques and skills with group members at all times
- Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position
- Must be willing and able to work in outside weather conditions and up to 8 hours per day
Qualifications
- Minimum of six (6) months of verifiable experience working with children coordinating activities in a camp, school or recreation program; or Certified Teachers with six (6) months of teaching experience in a school setting.
- Must have either graduated high school or have obtained high school equivalent OR be at least 18 years of age by May 28, 2025

CPR and First Aid Certification is mandatory and must be current throughout summer camp. Certifications required by start of training.
- Summer Camp Counselors must be responsible, possess the ability to exercise patience in difficult situations and exhibit the energy and physical stamina to work with children of varying ages.
- Experience in programming day camp activities, implementing games, special events and athletic activities.
- Knowledge and application of leadership techniques.
- Knowledge of the care and use of recreation equipment.
- Skill in working well with children of various ages by demonstrating patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to handle disruptive children effectively.
- Skills in music, art, athletics and drama are a plus.
- Ability to understand and follow the necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants.
- Ability to interact well with fellow employees, participants and parents/guardians.
- Ability to successfully pass physical, drug testing and background check.
NOTE: Fingerprinting is required; all fingerprints will be checked through the State of Florida's Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) as well as through the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
