About the Job: Performs intermediate-level professional work in the Information Technology (IT) department. Orders, evaluates, tests, inventories, and sets-up computer systems, and/or security access systems. Work is performed independently under limited supervision with considerable moderate latitude. Position typically requires processing and interpreting of more complex, less clearly-defined issues.
Hours of Work: Monday through Thursday 7:00am to 6:00pm; Days and hours are subject to change depending on needs of the department.
Hiring Range: $70,512.00 - $89,918.40, Depending on QualificationsThe list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. - Installs, configures, upgrades, and performs basic to complex trouble shooting and problem resolution related to the city network
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing and finding solutions to potential network and system issues
- Refreshing existing network equipment as needed and advising on the purchase of new systems
- Efficiently informing managers of network status
- Monitoring network usage
- Sets up and administers access to department specific applications, Local Area Network (LAN), and Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Configuration, installation, deployment and oversight of virtual server environment to support the city infrastructure
- Tests, reviews, supports, maintains, and acquires IT network related hardware and software
- Coordinate with vendors on procurement, support requests and training
- Documents and diagrams network and server infrastructure, VLANs, and updates disaster recovery information accordingly
- Adheres to best practice security policies when creating and updating network and server technologies
- Coordinates, implements, and monitors City-wide telephone services including voice mail
- Provides a wide range of customer service and support for voice and data equipment
- Monitors City network for unauthorized access/usage
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or required
- Primary backup to the Network & Infrastructure Engineer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline, supplemented by three (3) or more years of recent experience in a computer or telecommunications environment; or an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline, supplemented by five (5) or more years of recent experience in a computer or telecommunications environment; knowledge of VMware Server platform.
Must possess or obtain CCNA certification within 12 months of employment.
Must have a valid state of Florida driver license, class E.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:- Knowledge of LAN, WAN, Internet, and Intranet networking characteristics, protocols, technologies, applications, and integration concepts
- CCNA certification or ability to achieve within 12 months.
- Knowledge of VMware Server platform.
- Knowledge of Aruba platform
- Knowledge of Cisco platform and Brocade
- Knowledge of Fortinet Technologies (Fortigate)
- Knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, and system analysis and design techniques
- Skill in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
- Skill in providing good customer service
- Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities
- Ability to quickly and independently learn new software
- Ability to analyze and define problems, identify alternative solutions, estimate consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
- Ability to use critical thinking skills to arrive at solutions and suggest improvements to processes
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity. Some tasks may involve identifying and distinguishing colors.
